Creating a Hardware Profile in System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2

In System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), a profile is a library resource that contains specifications that can be applied to a new virtual machine or a virtual machine template. A hardware profile is a library resource that defines a standard set of hardware configuration settings that we can apply to a new virtual machine or a virtual machine template. We can deploy a virtual machine without a hardware profile, but by using a hardware profiles in conjunction with a virtual machine template ensure that your virtual machine deployment uses a consistent hardware configuration in virtual machines. A hardware profile can contain the following specifications:

  • Cloud Capability Profiles
  • Processor, Memory
  • Video Adapter
  • IDE Devices, DVD drives, SCSI Adapter
  • Network and Fibre Channel Adapters
  • Virtual machine priority
  • Memory Weight
  • Virtual NUMA (Non-uniform memory access)

To create a hardware profile, perform the following steps:

1. In the VMM console, click the Library workspace. In the navigation pane, expand Profiles, then right-click on Hardware Profiles, and then click Create Hardware Profile.
